Another idea for the Congressional GOP

By kishnevi

Or the Democrats, too, if they were smart enough…

Perusing this post at No Runny Eggs (which I urge you to read if you haven’t yet seen it) (through ++undead), which details how legislative mandates on ethanol production are making for a bad situation, now made even worse by the Midwest floods, it hit me that what Congress can mandate, Congress can unmandate. Introduce a bill to repeal the mandates, or at least cut back on them to match the losses due to floods, citing the unforeseen circumstance of the floods. If it passes, you get the credit. If it doesn’t pass, reintroduce it until the Democrats can’t afford not to let it pass. (Same idea as the proposal to introduce bills to allow drilling, and daring the Democrats not to let them pass.)

    Thanks for the link!

I like the approach. Too bad it would take actual initiative and spine to move it along.

One phrase: “ethanol refinery co-ops” Not only would crop prices come down, but farmers would lose their investment in the means of production. Ain’t gonna happen.
