DovBear, who is definitely a liberal, chose to highlight a comment left on an old post of his regarding Katrina that shows things in a light much different from the standard MSM myth.
The commenter is a lady from Gulfport, MS. (And honor to DB for choosing not to let her remarks languish in obscurity.)
So many extraordinary and awesome things occured during and after Hurricane Katrina and it is being lost because of politics. Consider, 50,000 people were rescued, one of the most massive rescues every done and all we hear about is how Bush is to blame for everything. At the beginning of 2007, the number of volunteers helping us to rebuild our lives in Louisiana and Mississippi reached 500,000.
If you want to look at what an ineffective government response to a natural disaster is, just look at what is going on(or not going on) in Burma.
There’s quite a few details to show how inaccurate the usual Katrina narrative is. Read what she says so you’ll be armed with more facts the next time someone says “It’s Bush’s fault”.

Did you notice the word “volunteers”? They have been the angels of this tragedy. They have come in groups of 10-30 from all over the country, in fact all over the world, to help rebuild a destroyed America. Yes, it is a wonderful story. But tell me why my government cannot come in a help? Why do I pay taxes? This is like leaving the rebuilding of post-war Europe to little old ladies and teenagers on Springbreak. That is what has happened in the Gulf South. I will NEVER look at my own country in the same way. I know, no matter what changes are made, that when we REALLY needed them, they turned their backs on us.

I haven’t ever been around anybody stupid enough to say “It was Bush’s fault.”
Heck, it wasn’t even the useless Ray Nagin’s fault.
