Refuah shelema for Nancy Reagan

May she have a complete recovery.
It’s been ten months since I fractured my pelvis, and a long hard crawl it’s been since then. And often enough, literally a crawl, and even now I’m not completely recovered, and may not be, with a residual limp and continual pain. And I’m thirty years younger than she is.
However, I was stunned to hear on the news reports that Mrs. Reagan did not seek medical attention until three days later.

Nancy Reagan suffered a broken pelvis in a fall at her home and will be hospitalized for several days, her spokeswoman said Wednesday. The 87-year-old former first lady fell last week, spokeswoman Joanne Drake said. She did not seek immediate medical care but decided Monday to get checked out because of persistent pain, Drake said.
Doctors at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center determined she had a fractured pelvis and sacrum, the triangular bone at the base of the spinal column.
“She’s in some pain but in very good spirits,” Drake said.
Mrs. Reagan was undergoing physical therapy but surgery won’t be required, Drake said. She will be hospitalized “for a few days — until doctors are satisfied with her progress — and then return home,” Drake said in a statement.
Recovery is expected within six to eight weeks, she said.

Either she is highly resistant to pain, or this was a very minor fracture, or both. I couldn’t move my leg without severe pain–severe pain meaning howl inducing–which made x-ray sessions and transfers between hospital emergency rooms something like a session with the Spanish Inquisition, even thought I was flat on my back trying not to move anything. It wasn’t until I was on a morphine drip after the operation that the pain went down to a manageable level, and I suspect the morphine drip had something to do with.
But I guess we already knew that Nancy Reagan was one tough dame, and God willing she’ll be around to keep reminding us for a good many more years.
